The word ‘cerulean’ takes me back to the trickle-down theory as advocated by Meryl Streep a.k.a Miranda Priestly in the iconic fashion-flick, The Devil Wears Prada. She recited the journey of cerulean blue and how it percolated to the masses after being showcased by different designers on the runway. In her words:

“In 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns, and then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent — wasn’t it? — who showed cerulean military jackets, And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. And then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner, where you no doubt fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.”

While Miranda spoke about the colour cerulean, I’m conversing about cerulean skies, under which —Anything goes! When it comes to fashion, anything goes; when it comes to social media, anything goes. We’re living in the era where The Kardashians are the role model of #FamilyGoals, and a girl whose wink goes viral on social media bringing her the status of influencer, with millions of followers overnight. Do we fear such a world or die trying to make a mark?

One sunny afternoon, underneath the cerulean skies, I realised that we cannot contain what is already exposed but make a conscious choice of standing our grounds and being the individuals that we are. Rather than measuring success in making others as a benchmark, try to set goals only keeping yourself in mind. Rather than dressing according to the trend or the ‘norm’, wear what makes you happy. Rather than having a different image on social media and different real-life personality, embrace who you are on all the pages of life and web! Chances are in the world where anything goes – your choice might just be a hit. The silver lining of today’s times is that the blurred lines of fashion will conjoin anyone’s style as long as it’s something unique.

So there I was standing in a printed jumper with a front open skirt, which looked pretty good in itself without the pink blazer but I added that anyway because that’s ME. There was no rule broken here, the little hipster jumper very well accommodated the little chic brought by the blazer and that’s what made me feel Hippieque and myself. Did this look break the internet? No. But did I get loads of compliments simply by being myself? Yes, and that felt pretty kick ass!

Wedding Dressing Without Any Stressing

Ethnic Co-ord with Cape | HippiequeXAnj

‘Tis the time to see everyone around you get married and bid goodbye to the singledom they shared with you! It comes with lavish invites to the even more lavish destinations and that’s where the fundamental question of ‘what will I wear?’ haunts us like the apocalypse.

After skimming the fashion markets for an ideal label which caters to your taste and pockets, I came across Anj Kreations—A stand-alone store in Bandra. It houses some great options for all the functions you’d have to attend including the wedding. From beautiful ethnic dresses you can wear for mehendi, exquisite lehengas for sangeet to sexy gowns for the black-tie dinner you know you’re going to get sloshed at, this store has you covered! The store with a big blue door is hard to miss if your heart yearns for some head-turning pieces you’d like to flaunt at your BFF’s wedding.

I had to go for a reception dinner and the wedding for which I chose two of their most unique pieces that instantly had my heart. A gorgeous darker-than-blood red gown for the reception dinner and an elegant crop-top skirt with a cape for the main wedding. It was a great choice for the winter chill as well! 😉

Layering is love. It sure is a tricky trend to master because you can either hit the spot or go a little too wrong. It doesn’t matter what your body shape is but how you layer it, is what makes all the difference. Allow me to take you back to a beautiful day where my team and I shot this editorial consisting of an exquisite Kasmiri work cape and a short brocade jacket.

A simple trick to layering: If you are bottom heavy then a long cape will only complement your curves and if you are bottom skinny then you can flaunt a short jacket that ends at your waist.

And if you’re more like me; make-your-own-fashion-rules kinda gal, then just go creative with all the jackets and cape in your wardrobe. You can make an outfit casual or formal, sexy or covering with just the right kinda layering element.

Want more inspiration in layering? See how other fashionistas are rocking this age old trend.

1. Layer with a skimpy crop-top over a plain white shirt.

2. Loosely hang your leather jacket over your shoulder for a chicer look.

3. Mount a loose cardigan over a denim shirt to complete your OOTD.

4. Or an XL sweater over a printed shirt to add some uniformity to the look.

So hope these tips inspired you to go forth and layer away that outfit. Comment below and tell me if you need some inspiration to rock any particular trend and I’ll have a great excuse to shoot soon!

Lakme fashion Week wearing Ekam Lakme fashion Week wearing Ekam Lakme fashion Week wearing Ekam Lakme fashion Week wearing Ekam Lakme fashion Week wearing Ekam Lakme fashion Week wearing Ekam

If you guys follow me on Instagram and Snapchat (id – fiercecosmopout) then you know all about the fun I had at Lakmé Fashion Week SR ’17. It is that week when I lost my appetite for food and gained all the enthusiasm for fashion! Seeing such creative shows back to back straight for 3 days was simply amazing. The fashion week is not just about the fashion but the creativity and inspiration that you can absorb. Meeting old friends, admiring new talent, ogling over hot models (guilty as charged!) and interviewing celebs – is what my day comprised of during the mad week.

And like they say “when in Rome do as the Romans do, ” when it comes to fashion week you need to dress like the fashionistas do. So knowing the very talented designer Arman Randhawa from Ekam, came in handy. His label Ekam was one of my favourite shows at LFW. I have seen his work before and have always been a fan, but his recent collection for Ekam is simply super. With trendy bomber jackets, capes, bodysuits, skirts and everything a trendy millennial would want to wear; his collection is a must check-out for a stylish 2017.

I styled this skirt featuring ERROR and floral motifs with a simple black bralette, a pair of good ole Superstars. This skirt really needs minimal accessorizing as it is a statement piece but since it was fashion week (and you’re allowed to go a little OTT) I stacked some bracelets and accessorized with a hand-made neck piece.

Pump Up The Basics!

I’ve never been the great minimalist when it comes to my personal style (for those who really know me, know this very well about me!). Perhaps I never grew out of the ‘dressing up’ phase. But all said and done, I do understand the essentials of basics; speaking of which one needs to own a good pair of white sneaks! I know Adidas Superstars are no new launch but somehow like half a billion people around the globe, I’m a huge fan of them!

Sticking to my vibrant palette, I choose a cut-out coral top and paired it with this skort (yes, that’s a thing now!). You could style this skort with a monochrome top as well but (like in life) I chose colour! To keep up with the atheleisure trend just make sure to take stripes and pair them up with the right kind of sneakers. Yes, that’s my secret to rocking this trend! If you’ve already got your hands on these Superstars, then take inspiration from some guys who really style them a level up! (Like me!)

Style them with your gym clothes like it’s the norm!

Goes well with military green and short skirts!

Missing NY extra today 😢 #sickofboston

Reverie Reign – #HippiequeTravels To Palolem (Goa)

Photography: Harshit Sohu || Shoot location: Ciarans (Palolem) || Outfit: Hippieque | Floral head gear : Topshop

Goa is not just a destination, it’s a state of mind! From rhythmic ocean waves to soothing sand manicures, friendly locals to raging firangs…this place really has it all. This post was unconsciously tucked away in one of the “shoot folders.” Only when I was planning my next Goa trip did I remember to visit these pictures and finally decided to blog. So it’s safe to say that this post is a reverie flashback! After a peaceful stroll at the white sand beach of Palolem, I got back to my comfortable beach view hut at the Ciarans and decided to do a quick photo shoot. Impromptu shoots are the best!

This post is also my very first #HippiequeTravels post! Personally, my favourite part of Goa is a small beach called as Palolem located in South of Goa. This beach use to be one of not-so-known beaches 5-6 years back and thus was an untouched paradise. Today it’s the cool concoction of Baga street madness with Ashwem’s beautiful sand stretch. Palolem has it’s own street shopping lane before you enter the beach (Pro tip: Haggle the hell outta the vendors) and it also has some amazing on-the-beach shacks/bars that will guarantee the best night of your life (I vouch for it!). Palolem also has Silent Noise – The Club, it’s India’s first club that has an all head-phones party! So you come to the club, put on a pair of headphones, select the kind of music you want to groove to and watch other people do the same. The coolest part is when you take off your head phones and watch people around you go crazy with absolutely no music! LOL. Here are few other reasons why I love South Goa over the over-commercialized North Goa.

It’s drop dead beautiful white sand beach

With cute eateries/bars with cool graffiti walls (calling all the art junkies)

You can enjoy your poison and still feel like you’re in heaven!

You can rent out a float and chill on the gentle waves

Killer location for photo shoots a.k.a making digital memories!

So since we’re on the verge of bidding the dreadful monsoons goodbye. I have booked my tickets for Goa in the coming month. See ya there amigos!
